ABOUT
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Abigail Dowd grew up under the longleaf pines in the Sandhills region of North Carolina. Known for her storytelling and command of an audience, she has been called "a writer of the highest caliber” (The All Scene Eye). Describing her soulful voice and unique classical guitar style, Acoustic Guitar magazine writes: “the guitar-driven introspective folk of the 1970s is a touchstone, but so are blues and roots rock ’n’ roll.”
Pulling from her heritage of storytelling and determination, Dowd weaves hints of Celtic melodies with the soulful gospel of the south to create a sound that dances between folk, rock and blues.

- ALL SCENE EYE
Musically, vocally and lyrically absorbing, [Beautiful Day] offers a universally inspirational voice to ride the flood rather than being drowned by it.
- FOLK RADIO UK
Beautiful Day…An impeccable record, lyrically and musically; clearly one of the year’s top singer-songwriter efforts to date.
- MAKING A SCENE
Beautiful Day is a powerful record of perseverance and passion.
Landing somewhere between folk music and roots rock, this Greensboro songwriter’s effusive songs are steeped in storytelling and soul. Beautiful Day boasts a fully fleshed-out soundscape for songs that are already strong at their core.
- CLTure
Few writers address the search for personal identity like Dowd does here. Yes, Mary Gauthier, Gretchen Peters, and Patty Griffin come to mind as well but Dowd’s utter honesty reveals often painful experiences that shape who we are.
- GLIDE MAGAZINE
This album (Beautiful Day) combines pretty much everything that makes contemporary songwriting worth listening to: a wonderful voice, strong songs, supported by a stylish band - ultimately refined by careful production. Top album of the genre!
